Exercise Physiology
Exercise physiologists understand the physical and mental difficulties health conditions can impose on quality of life, and work with you to develop life-long, sustainable behaviour change around physical activity levels.
Properly prescribed exercise has been shown to help manage:
Cardiovascular conditions (high blood pressure, post cardiac event)
Pulmonary conditions (asthma, COPD)
Metabolic conditions (Type II Diabetes, chronic kidney disease, high cholesterol, obesity)
Neurological conditions (stroke, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury)
Lifelong and life-limiting conditions (cerebral palsy, MS, Parkinson’s, MD, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue)
Psychological and cognitive conditions (anxiety, depression, dementia)
Cancer
Musculoskeletal conditions (osteopenia/osteoporosis, arthritis, back pain)
Exercise programs are an important part of rehabilitation, including:
return to work strength and conditioning
post-injury and post-surgery recovery
managing post intensive care syndrome (PICS) and Long COVID
Ask your doctor if referral to an exercise physiologist is appropriate for your condition.
