Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiologists understand the physical and mental difficulties health conditions can impose on quality of life, and work with you to develop life-long, sustainable behaviour change around physical activity levels.

Properly prescribed exercise has been shown to help manage:

  • Cardiovascular conditions (high blood pressure, post cardiac event)

  • Pulmonary conditions (asthma, COPD)

  • Metabolic conditions (Type II Diabetes, chronic kidney disease, high cholesterol, obesity)

  • Neurological conditions (stroke, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury)

  • Lifelong and life-limiting conditions (cerebral palsy, MS, Parkinson’s, MD, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue)

  • Psychological and cognitive conditions (anxiety, depression, dementia)

  • Cancer

  • Musculoskeletal conditions (osteopenia/osteoporosis, arthritis, back pain)

Exercise programs are an important part of rehabilitation, including:

  • return to work strength and conditioning

  • post-injury and post-surgery recovery

  • managing post intensive care syndrome (PICS) and Long COVID

Ask your doctor if referral to an exercise physiologist is appropriate for your condition.
